Dear Dr Solworth, I have been given your details, by our mutual colleague John Aycock, Calgary University. We are looking for student volunteers to join our crew at the above mentioned anti-virus event. We have been inviting students to help out at our event for the past 4 years and can honestly say, that both parties have gained valuable experience and friendship. Over the years, we have kept in touch with all students and are proud that as a direct result, some of the students have been offered jobs within the industry by companies who had taken part. Students, preferably IT/Computer Science, will not work for free. They all will receive an hourerly wage (minimum US hourerly wage), crew T-shirts, food and are invited to take part in all social functions. Wednesday, 29 September: Cocktail party Thursday, 30 September: Dinner party with entertainment They are allowed to mingle with all delegates and sit in on sessions, if they are not engaged in some help. It is light work, such as: - stuffing delegate bags with proceedings, issues and sponsor swag, on Tuesday, 28 September - registering delegates (some 350) on Wednesday afternoon, 29 September - manning the microphones during sessions, 29/30 September - 1 October I am including some VB history, to give you an idea about us. Also, should you be able to select 7-8 students, you will be invited to the event and will receive a free pass to all sessions and social program. May I just add, that students can work shifts, as long as we know exactly who will turn up and when. We will need their full address details, including their email accounts. They need to be able to communicate with each other, but do not necessarily need to know each other. Previous years, we had students from the 1st right through to the 4th year. All we ask the students is, that they are punctual, friendly and well groomed. They need to wear black trousers and black shoes. T-shirts will be supplied, but we need to know, their T-shirt sizes latest by 15 September 2004. We normally order 3 T-shirts per person, but if we know in advance, we can order 4 or 5 per person. Should we have left over promotional material, students are welcome to take it home. I would be most grateful, if you could help us. VB2003 was a huge success and it was down to the smooth running of the crew work. Please see more details and pictures on www. virusbtn.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, Bernadette Disborough Office Manager Virus Bulletin International Conference (VB2004) is running from 29 September - 1 October 2004 in Chicago, USA. The conference is in its 14th year and past events have attracted 300 - 400+ delegates from around the globe. The event has established an unbeatable reputation as the meeting place for anti-virus professionals and corporations worldwide regard attendance at this conference as an essential component of their anti-virus strategy. While in the past the conference has focused exclusively on computer viruses and malware threats, VB2004 will see an expansion of the programme to cover topics relating to spam and anti-spam techniques. Delegates range from dedicated AV researchers to security experts, from government and military organizations, legal, financial and educational institution and large corporations worldwide. Our sponsors this year are: Computer Associates, Eset Software, Microsoft and Trend Micro
